1. Permeability of Stone
Before discussing how to remove cement stains from stone, it’s important to understand a key characteristic of stone—its permeability. This property differs significantly from materials like ceramics and glass, which have zero permeability. When using colored liquids to treat cement stains, special care must be taken to prevent penetration into the stone, which could cause discoloration. Some cleaners may seep into marble and leave permanent staining residue, especially on light-colored stones like Jazz White or Guangxi White.
2. Cement Cleaning Agent
If marble is contaminated with cement, it is recommended to use a cleaning agent that does not react with the marble’s calcium carbonate composition, such as a biological cement cleaner. The usage method of biological cement cleaner is as follows:
(1) For general cement dust, apply the biological cement cleaner to a cloth and wipe the marble directly. Then, use a damp cloth to wipe away the cleaning agent from the marble surface.
(2) For thicker cement layers on the marble surface, spray the biological cement cleaner directly. Wait for a certain period, allowing the cement to soften, then rinse with water or wipe away with a cloth. If you use a cloth to wipe, you should follow up with a clean damp cloth.
3. Scraper Method
Use a scraper to gently scrape along the surface of the marble to remove the cement. Be careful not to scratch or damage the stone.
4. Specialized Stone Cleaner
These products can break down organic pollutants on the surface of the stone and remove surface protection layers. If necessary, you can mix the cleaner with a decontamination powder, which helps extend the reaction time of the compound and absorbs the stains into the paste.
Before using the compound, it’s important to test a small, inconspicuous area, such as a corner of the wall, to ensure that it doesn’t leave dark marks or damage the stone. For light scratch removal, the process is relatively simple, and many polishing powders are available on the market. However, polishing powders generally need to be used in combination with a polishing machine or single-disc machine.
5. Grinding Method
This process might be more complicated, so it is recommended to have a professional handle the task.
